News and Upcoming Performances
Classically trained guitarist, George Little, regularly performs on the concert stage
and has been met by audiences with resounding approval. He is currently active in
multiple genres of music including gypsy-swing jazz with The New Boston Duo. Recently,
he has provided music to various theater and dance productions.

Raised in small town Massachusetts, George Little’s earliest experiences making
music came in High School writing folk songs and performing in local coffee shops and
restaurants in and around the North Shore, Boston and Portsmouth, NH areas. At
UMass Dartmouth, he studied Western European Classical music and Classical Guitar
performance. Under the tutelage of
William Riley, George refined his technique while
developing his own sense of style. Early on, he sought out collaborations other musicians
to create chamber music with and received coaching from
Newport Baroque director,
Paul Cienniwa, and his wife, renowned baroque cellist
Audrey Cienniwa. Shortly after
graduating from UMass (B.A. ’04), he was invited to perform as a soloist with
Providence College Early Music Ensemble. There at UMass, George also had his first
experiences with jazz; performing for 2 years with the Brazilian Jazz ensemble directed
by Todd Baker.

George was awarded the Lillian B. Lamaroux Music Scholarship from the
New
Bedford Symphony Orchestra in 2003 and he received the UMass Dartmouth Book
Award, twice, for excellence in music performance. He was also the first music student to
be awarded the Emil “Smokey” Ameen Scholarship for excellence in Art.

  George attended the
Longy School of Music, earning his Master’s of Music Degree in
Guitar Performance (M.M. ‘09), and studied with
David Patterson (New World Guitar
Trio). At Longy, George made it a point to elevate the guitar’s status at the
Conservatory where he was the first Master’s student to study Guitar Performance. He
pursued chamber music opportunities whenever possible and regularly approached
student composers to write for the guitar. He also explored the guitar’s capability to
replace the piano as accompaniment in Schubert’s art songs, a project he continues
today, and has
created an edition that include the guitar arrangements.

As a soloist and in chamber music, George performs regularly on the concert stage and
on concert series at such venues as St. Mary’s Church and Trinity Church in Newport,
RI, The First Unitarian Church in New Bedford, Ma, St. John the Evangelist Church in
Boston, Ma and ‘Concerts at the Point’ in Westport, Ma. He has performed at the New
England Conservatory, Harvard University and Providence College. Recently, George
has provided the music to various theater performances, including a production of the
Greek tragedy ‘Antigone’ at the Waring School in Beverly, MA, the
Yankee City
Theater Project, Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’ for the Newburyport, MA Theater in the
Open Company and ‘The Pooka and the Woods’ with the Ipswich Moving Company.
